Organic Passive hydroponics (OPH) @ Keralaponics

Hydroponics growing system

Hydroponics is an intensive growing method which helps to get high yields of vegetables. Being a soil less cultivation system, it prevents soil borne diseases, nematodes and weeds. In a hydroponics system, plants are growing in nutrient solution instead of soil. Water and fertilizer consumption, labor and space requirement in a hydroponics system is very less than traditional soil culture methods.

There are 6 basic types of hydroponics systems are in use like Wick, Deep water culture, Flood and drain, Drip (recycle or non recycle), Nutrient film technique and Aeroponics. All the hydroponics methods are variations or combinations of these 6 basic systems. A fertilizer tank and a growing bed for plants are the basic parts required for this system. We can use any one or a combination of inert materials like rockwool, perlite, vermiculite, coconut fiber, gravel, crushed rubbles, sand etc. as growing medium.

Passive hydroponics or non circulating hydroponics 

Pump and aerator are not used in a Passive hydroponics or non circulating hydroponics system. Electrical or mechanical power is not using for the operation of this system. Any type of tanks or containers can be used as nutrient solution tank and fixed or floating growing beds can placed on the top of the solution. Generally chemical compounds are used for preparing nutrient solution for hydroponics.

Organic passive hydroponics (OPH)

Keralaponics has succeeded in developing organic hydroponics (OH) and organic passive hydroponics (OPH) systems. Keralaponics have introduced so many models of organic hydroponics (OH) and organic passive hydroponics (OPH) systems which are using locally available low cost organic fertilizers only.
The difference between PH and OPH is in the usage fertilizers only. We are successfully cultivating vegetables and herbs by using the organic passive hydroponics systems (OPH) @ Keralaponics.
